Do you remember Sanju and his magic pencil from Shaka Laka Boom Boom? Haven’t we all wished to own one such pencil too?
Would you believe me if I told you, that you don’t need magic to get to the life you want? Yes, each of us is equally bestowed with this amazing gift of visualization. But what is visualization and how can one harness the power of visualization to attain the desired? I am here to decode it for you.
Visualization is an art of recreating images, sounds and feelings in your mind. Lost? It may sound daunting at first, but let me prove to you that you can use it too. Close your eyes and imagine yourself going to the kitchen and getting a cup of hot tea. Try and imagine every detail, even the aroma of the tea.
Were you able to imagine the cup of tea? May be you were drinking from out of your favorite mug, and that premium brand you love. You may want a cup of tea right now. That’s how visualization works.
There is enough proof of the effects of visualization. Australian Psychologist Alan Richardson conducted an experiment where he took a group of basketball players, divided them in 3 groups and tested each player’s ability to make free throws.
- The first group would practice 20 minutes each day.
- The second would only visualize themselves making free throws, but no real practice was allowed.
- The third one would not practice or visualize.
The results were astonishing. There was significant improvement on the group that only visualized; they were almost as good as they guys who actually practiced.
From rags to riches, the story of Oprah Winfrey is not an unknown. She started young, as she watched her grandmother toil, Winfrey would tell herself over and over again: “My life won’t be like this. My life won’t be like this, it will be better.” She is an advocate to positive thinking.
“Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.” – Oprah Winfrey
Will Smith is a deliberate creator too. An award winning rapper, actor and film producer looked up to by many in the entertainment industry. Will is one of the most vocal celebrities when it comes to advocating deliberate creation.
“Our thoughts, our feelings, our dreams, our ideas are physical in the Universe. If we dream something, if we picture something, if we commit ourselves to it, then that is a physical thrust towards realization that we can put into the Universe. Universe is not a thing that’s gonna push us around. We are gonna bend the Universe and command and demand that Universe become what we want it to be.” – Will Smith
Visualization is simple, but it requires you to practice often to get the best results.
But remember that just visualization won’t work by itself and reaches accomplishment with action. Visualization is a tool – and if you don’t use the tool; remember that a fool with a tool is still a fool!
